Planet Waves Inner Space - August 2007

Dear Friend and Reader:

Before we get to your Inner Space horoscope this week, I want to tell you about a new Planet Waves public interest website, and ask for your help promoting it. It's called DioxinDorms.com and it's the most complete compilation of my work on PCBs and dioxin at SUNY New Paltz and far beyond. On its pages, you will also find many of the great historical articles of the past 25 years of environmental journalism (i.e., the stuff that inspired me to get into this work).

This is part of our effort to get the word out about the toxic dorms and the larger issues, and warn parents and students before they unwittingly go into the buildings and risk some very serious problems.

So -- please post this link to your website, to your blog, to your address book; or ask any bloggers or web journalists you know to do the same. Thank you! The URL is: http://dioxindorms.com/

For those wanting a short, simple summary, you may read my letter to parents and students that will be distributed Aug. 20. Click here. And thank you for your help.

Yours truly,
Eric Francis

Aries (March 20-April 19)
What is history? What value does the past possess? Ask yourself these questions now, and you'll finally gain an understanding of how the past and the present relate to one another. There comes a point where everything in life is an attempt to get something old right. Then there comes a time when we need to push forward into the next ideas and experience that can feed us, make us strong and remind us we're young. You would be wise to ask yourself whether the next thing you do is something you've done before, or something you have never imagined. One intriguing aspect of the past is what we never did that we still yearn for.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)
You are currently inventing yourself in ways you could not have imagined just a couple of years ago, and accomplishing things that you never dreamed you were, in actual reality, personally capable of. This speaks more to the quality of your insecurities than it does to your talents; you usually overstate the value of one and understate the value of the other. Many factors the past two years have conspired to create a dual effect: you've had to find comfort amidst the constant reminder that you can't get too comfortable. The next phase of your life will require you to focus your creative discipline. You need to maximize all forms of support to that end, including and especially the space you live in.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
Mars in your sign has a way of pushing you in every direction at once. However, you know you need to focus your intentions and ambitions if you're going to get anywhere. To that end, the space provided by a relationship or business partner may be just the thing you need to gather your strength. You need at least temporary relief from certain of the more annoying aspects of domestic life, while taking advantage of the more supportive ones. One aspect of this is physical space, and another is the guidance and companionship that will help contain the impact of your willpower. Accept what help is offered; go where the home fires are burning.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Saturn is getting ready to move out of your money house -- Leo, your 2nd solar house. This is traditionally Saturn's house of tight finances, but it's also the house of structuring yourself. Use this month to complete your process of renovating your financial affairs. I suggest you complete one project associated with accounting, another associated with your professional worth, and apply yourself to a third project involving your self-esteem, which is the source of all money. As for this last one -- you are such a natural at feeling good about yourself, you really just need to identify why all your reasons for not doing so were wrong.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23)
You may be wondering whether you really want to live where you are living, but I suggest you set some parameters on the question. It's fairly simple: do you have good friends who inspire you, and do you feel like you're working toward any of your more important goals? This is certainly an intense period of review for you, but I suggest you make no final decisions until after Saturn has left your sign in early September and an eclipse right around then helps you sort out your finances. You need to be working with clear information and a concrete plan, and both are likely to materialize in about one month's time.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
Unusual pressure you may be under or the sense of some ominous change ahead involves the combination of Saturn working its way out of your 12th house, and two eclipses involving your sign that occur around your birthday. You may want to review your whole philosophy as regards the issue of "change." Are you someone for whom the concept of change evokes fear and apprehension, or do you greet those inevitable thresholds with a sense of progress and vision? The difference depends on one thing, which is whether you feel safe. I suggest you tap into what at this moment is an abundance of protection, particularly in your home, and you'll feel a lot better about blazing forward into the unknown.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
It is one thing to have a roof over your head. It's another thing entirely to feel like you have a place in society. In the weeks ahead, you can experiment with that feeling, particularly from the viewpoint of how much you've accomplished putting down the kinds of roots that establish your role and sense of belonging to a society. It's true that you've experienced a diversity of rejections the past couple of years, but they have served, if nothing else, to point you closer to where you belong. You may want to go on a hunt for old ideas about how to gain professional revenue that you rejected on the basis of not being strong enough or talented enough.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
You have, it's quite clear, been going through one long series of tests about whether you are capable of feeling grounded and secure anywhere on the planet. The strange shuffle going on in your career has not necessarily lent any credibility to your certainty that you can indeed feel like you have not just any home, but the right home. Take advantage of this unusual moment of flux to set certain things right that have long needed to be set right. You can ease off on questions regarding the loyalty of a partner or professional superior -- when the time comes, they will do the right thing, even if they're waffling today.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
Your plans for an international move, venture or romance seem to be getting shuffled like a croupier's pack of cards. The hard part is you keep wondering when the shuffling will end and the dealing will begin. Actually, take a look and you'll see you're holding quite a few excellent cards, and life is more a matter of when you make your choices. While certain opportunities will present themselves this month, they're unlikely to reach maturity for at least one more month, at which time you will see the full value of what you're looking directly at. That comes in several forms, but the most valuable will be a tangible sense of freedom that you cannot deny.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
The way we learn right from wrong is experience. You can know things in theory, but you cannot actually understand the complexity of ethical issues until you are standing there, in your body, faced with the need to make a decision. I propose that a financial matter you've been struggling with for quite a long time will be easier when you approach it directly than it is when you approach it mentally. Don't worry if you decide you were worried for nothing -- move on from that one quickly. Just take the next month or two to ensure that everyone in the situation has a full understanding of where the other is really coming from. And remember you love this person.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
If it's seemed to take forever for someone to commit themselves to you, you can afford to take a wait-and-see approach for the next few weeks. The truth will squeeze its way through the cracks in your misperceptions. You can, meanwhile, expect someone close to you to change their mind about something a couple of more times before they give you anything resembling a final decision; but be aware, they don't want to seem like the unstable type and are concerned about sending you mixed or false messages. The way to send them a direct message is to be ready and willing to listen at any time, morning, noon or night.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
As the veils of illusion continue lifting away from your vision, remember you have the creative power not only to deal with any situation that life hands you, but to turn it into something that you can thrive from. You are ending an extended phase characterized by intense pressure, a few health concerns and way too much work. Deep in your heart and soul, however, has been a growing sense of passion and inner light that has guided you to make some bold decisions and keep the door open for a few others. Be vigilant against that thing the world calls a "closed mind." Every tiny gesture of keeping your mind open currently counts for quadruple points.
