Greetings from the Galactic Core

Dear Friend and Reader:

Just a brief note updating you on the Spiral Door, which assuming the miracle of email was working last night, you heard is published. If not, let me be the first to tell you.

We have added a couple of new articles, including Shelley Ackerman's interesting and entertaining piece called Greetings from the Galactic Center: Pluto Sends His Best. Working on it with Shelley over the weekend, I learned that the Galactic Core was discovered investigating the background hiss on some undersea communications cables. Here is from the May 5, 1933 front page of The New York Times:

"Discovery of mysterious radio waves which appear to come from the centre of the Milky Way galaxy was announced yesterday by the Bell Telephone Laboratories. The discovery was made during research studies on static by Karl G. Jansky of the radio research department at Holmdel, N.J. and was described by him in a paper delivered before the International Scientific Radio Union in Washington."

Now, can you imagine how strange that must have been at the time? These people were not looking at Hubble photos of the dawn of time on the Internet late at night. Their cars looked like Model T's and they washed their clothes by hand. And then one day the core of the galaxy is talking to them on their phone cables.

I've also posted a second article by Richard Tarnas, author of Cosmos and Psyche, a cool new book I've been talking up here and there. Here is how I'll sum up the whole book in a few words: Rick is suggesting that astrology is basically awareness of being part of the natural world. Astrology just means we are connected to the universe, not separate from it or different than it. He looks at this idea first through the work of Carl Jung, then exploring the cycles of history and some people who really made a difference in history. We've got an interview with him and also two pieces written by Rick that came along for the ride.

This appears along with an impressive group of articles written by some good friends of mine that cover family, religion and the government, a journey to the goddess, civil rights, and some nice ones on astrology, too -- in addition to the Spiral Door horoscopes.

Have a look. Your regular log and pass get you into the area (reader / feast). If you want to share with people, we've set up a special short-term log and pass set (visitor / waver) which you may share with friends. That will work for a few days.

Yours & truly,
Eric Francis
