Somewhere, there is a Book of Blue.
Somewhere, there is a Book of Blue.

New York, June 10, 2009

Dear Friend and Reader:

Lately when we send out Planet Waves announcements, they come with a subtle link somewhere to another publication I've created, called Book of Blue. Subtle doesn't work on the Internet anymore, so I'm here with the direct approach.

Book of Blue started in 2005 as a photo project and quickly became a story and essay series. The chapter series offers an ongoing, unusual viewpoint on sexuality, gender, relationships and body image, particularly as offered by a man.

The images (which sometimes contain nudity) that accompany the articles have been created in an ongoing process of hundreds of photos sessions of women from the United States, Canada and Europe, plus nature photography, abstracts and self-portraits.

Personally, I think this project is right on time. The world has been rumbling for a fresh viewpoint on sexuality and relationships, and dying of thirst for images of women that portray them as human and not as products of a marketing department. I'm here to offer you a nice drink of spring water.

At the moment, the entire website is free (there is not much behind the password areas). The fine art prints page is easy to find. Most of the editorial photos are available as prints, and you can start collecting when the price of the work seems reasonable. I also offer photo sessions to those who are interested, on different terms (for the experience, for studio use, for your personal use, for your professional portfolio, and others). Though it's not in my usual repertoire, I'll consider special events, such as commitment ceremonies and ritual; and executive portraits.

Finally, if you're an aspiring artist or writer, particularly with a sexpositive spin, I'm interested in talking about potential collaborations. Please use this email link and leave the subject header the same.

Please let me know how you like it, if you want to contribute ideas, or take part as a photo subject. This is a personal invitation. If you think I'm talking to you, I am.

Yours & truly,
Eric Francis
