Somewhere, there is a Book of Blue.
Somewhere, there is a Book of Blue.

Dear Friend and Reader:

As you may know, I've been developing a photographic project during the past four years, called Book of Blue. Until now, it has been art for the sake of art, combined with a writing process where I've done a bit of unraveling myself. As I've traveled from country to country (finally making home in upstate New York) I've conducted photo sessions with more than 50 women, developing a process of portraiture, often in or near in mirrors. You can read more about it here.

At long last, I'm ready to offer prints of the work. I'll risk taking a moment of your time for the sake of those who would feel left out had I not mentioned it. This is my first offering of prints. I am nervous, excited, and feel halfway between like I'm doing it too soon and having waited too long. So that may mean right on time.

Here is the gallery. It contains thumbnails, some of which have light nudity, potentially not appropriate for work. Information for ordering prints appears below the larger version of each image, accessed by clicking the thumbnail.

Book of Blue has, so far, been a meaningful part of my journey of self-understanding. Some of that story is told in the essay series associated with the photos. I think the simplest way to say it is this: these images are about mirrors, the people reflected in them, and the threshold represented by that psychic gateway. But together they represent the clearest reflection I've ever held up to my own life.

Yours & truly,
Eric Francis
